Posterior leg9/17/2023 Medial malleolar and calcaneal branches.Medial and lateral plantar arteries: plantar aspect of the foot (sole).Muscular branches: muscles of the posterior compartment of the leg.Terminates just beyond the medial malleolus by dividing into the medial and lateral plantar arteries.Passes under the flexor retinaculum of the ankle joint, below the medial malleolus.Enters the posterior compartment of the leg by passing deep to the soleus muscle.A terminal branch of the tibioperoneal trunk of the popliteal artery.The deep fibular nerve crosses the anterior tibial artery from lateral to medial along its course in the leg.Medial and lateral malleolar branches: medial and lateral malleolar network.Anterior and posterior tibial recurrent arteries: anastomosis around the knee joint.Muscular branches: muscles of the anterior compartment of the leg.Continues as the dorsalis pedis artery beyond the ankle joint (see below).Lies anteriorly between the two malleoli at the ankle joint.Lies anteriorly on the interosseous membrane throughout its course.
